Endless Summer Shirt IN PERSON

Saturday, April 27 + Sunday April 28, 12 -5 pm, $160

Image from the designer

The Endless Summer Shirt from Ann Tilley is a casual top with elevated details to make you feel special everyday. Pleating at the base of the yoke floats the fabric away from the body + provides shaping even though the side seams are straight. Slight gathering at the top of the shoulders + a relaxed fit under the arms means no fabric is getting too close to your skin in the sticky, summer heat. The sleeves are all-in-one with the bodice panels so no setting in a sleeve -- when the side seams are done, so are you! The neck is finished with a shawl collar that is part of the front panel, creating a V-neck opening. The front hem splits just above the hip into a dramatic curve that’s finished with a separate facing piece that can match or contrast for an additional, fun detail.

Instructor: Ann Tilley

SEWING LEVEL: Intermediate. You must have some garment-making experience to take this class.

SIZE: 2XS - 4XL (32"- 58" bust)

MATERIALS LIST:

  • Pattern is provided. We will have printed copies at the shop. Please pick up and cut out your fabric prior to class. You can come in at 11 am before the start of class on Saturday to cut out. If you have questions, you can ask Ann via e-mail before class, or wait to cut during class but understand that you might not finish sewing in the allotted time.

  • 2 yards - MAIN FABRIC: Super-lightweight to mid-weight woven fabric. Designed for a lawn or voile to take you through the hot summer weather, you don’t want to go too heavy with your choice since there is so much pleating.

  • 1/2 yard -HEM FACING: light-weight woven fabric. You can use your main fabric here or choose a contrasting fabric as a fun detail.

  • 1/4 yard -INTERFACING (optional): light-weight fusible or non-fusible. If your fabric is super-lightweight, you should consider non-fusible.

MACHINES NEEDED:

  • Home machine. We will only need a straight stitch for this entire sew!

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Some sewing machine + garment-making experience is needed to tackle this intermediate project.

SKILLS LEARNED:

  • How to add shaping with pleats

  • Inserting a yoke by turning corners

  • Finishing a neck with a shawl collar

  • Curved hem finishing with a facing
