This class is designed for beginners who are learning how to sew. It’s the perfect follow up to our Intro to Machines class! This class assumes you can set up your machine and sew a standard straight stitch. Along the way, you’ll learn the basics of working with a commercial pattern and how to cut fabric accurately. Lots of straight stitch practicing and a few curves later, and you’ll have this roomy market bag for all of your totin' needs!

If you're registered for the Moraine Sweater class, you may add two additional sessions and learn to steek (or cut) your sweater into a cardigan! Students should have sweater knitting and ideally colorwork experience. Students must decide at the first session of the Moraine class if they will be steeking. Yarn selected should be non-superwash wool. Students should be emotionally prepared to cut their knitting.

This gorgeous hat from Woolly Wormhead features an unusual construction and is a quick project packed with great new techniques that you'll see in many future projects. This class will cover a provisional cast-on, German short-rows, reading knitting charts, and grafting. Students should be comfortable following knitting patterns with knits, purls, increases and decreases.

Are you a beginner sewist wondering what all the knobs and dials on your machine do? Are you coming back to sewing after long break? If you know how to sew, but aren't satisfied with your machine skills, this class will show you the ins and outs of your sewing machine! We'll go over terminology, set-up, stitches, and troubleshooting as well as tools that will help make your projects a success. You do not need a machine to register. We will only be going over modern machines.

You can knit but what is this purl thing? We'll cast on, practice our knit stitch, learn how to purl and then learn how to switch between knitting and purling to make a dishcloth from cotton yarn. Students should have experience casting on and knitting.

The Ilford Jacket by Friday Pattern Company is the quintessential chore coat, with loads of pockets to keep tools handy and an easy fit that allows for plenty of room to move. You can choose to make the longer or shorter version, and which pockets you’d like - we’ll go over all of them! In this class, we’ll cover the sleeve version with the full placket & cuff - you can also choose to make a boxy sleeve with a simple hem. Collars, cuffs, plackets & buttonholes - excellent skills to add to your sewing toolkit! This class introduces intermediate skills, but will also go over sizing, pattern modifications and fabric layouts. Confident beginners who have made a garment or two are welcome.
