January 2023 Classes
Classes will state if they are IN PERSON, VIRTUAL, or HYBRID. Hybrid classes will allow for both in person or remote attendance. You will receive the Zoom link with registration for virtual and hybrid classes.
VACCINATION REQUIRED for in-person attendance. Masks must be worn at all times inside the shop and classroom. Hybrid and virtual classes include a class recording.
Learn to Knit, One Dishcloth at a Time HYBRID
January 7, 14, + 21, 10-12 pm, $90
If you've never knit before or just need a refresher, this three-week class will teach you all the basics. We'll start off with a simple garter stitch dishcloth, then learn the techniques to add new colors the second week, then add textured stitches in week 3. You'll be ready to knit so many projects after this class!

3 colors of Worsted Weight cotton yarn like Nifty Cotton (with good contrast, no dark colors)

The Coloring Book Raglan- Beginner Sweater HYBRID
January 7 + 14, February 4, 11, + 18, 1-3 pm, $150

Want to knit your first sweater, or learn to make sweaters that fit just right? This classic raglan sweater class will cover a range of skills, starting with sizing and fit. We'll also learn general sweater construction, raglan shaping, twisted rib, German short rows, and jogless stripes. Students should have some experience knitting from a pattern, and comfortably knit and purl in the round.

Worsted Weight yarn for your size (depends on stripe pattern as well)
US 8 (5 mm) circular needles in 16" and 32" and preferred method for small circumference knitting

Intro to Machine Sewing HYBRID
January 8, 10 am-1:00 pm $45
Are you a beginner sewist who has no idea what all the knobs and dials on your machine do? Are you coming back to sewing after long break? If you know how to sew, but aren't satisfied with your machine skills, this class will show you the ins and outs of your home sewing machine! We'll go over terminology, set-up, stitches, and troubleshooting as well as tools that will help make your projects a success. You do not need a machine to register. We will only be going over modern machines.

Materials List:
- Your home sewing machine, in good working order with the power cord, foot pedal, and bobbin
- 1/2 yard of any woven cotton fabric (no stretch)
- Any color thread
- Fabric shears or sharp scissors
- Pins (glass head pins are preferred but any kind will do for this class)
Maia Sweater HYBRID
January 21, 28, February 25, March 18, 25, April 1 + 8, 1-3 pm $210
Maia is a bottom-up, all-over colorwork sweater with a few tricks up its sleeve! We'll learn to knit a colorwork swatch, troubleshoot colorwork issues, German short-rows, armhole and neckline steeking using felted steeks, sewn Italian bind-off, and general sweater fit and construction techniques. Students should confidently knit and purl in the round and have experience reading charts.

The Toaster Sweater
January 22 + 29, 10am - 1 pm $90
The Toaster Sweater by Sew House Seven is just what you want to snuggle into for winter! We’ll be making version #1 in class – a raglan sleeve with a high neck and bands to finish the wrists and hems. It’s a simple shape for those who would like to explore sewing knit garments on their sewing machine – no serger needed. In the first class, we’ll look at the fit then pin & cut our fabric. And then it is all about construction – learn which stitches on your machine work best for your fabric. We’ll also go over single fold hems if you choose not to add bands to your sweater, and time allowing we will discuss version #2.
Please come to class with your fabric washed, dried and pressed if needed. Machines are also needed in the first class as we will be experimenting with stitches on scraps.
Equipment Needed: sewing machine with zig-zag options, iron, ironing board, pressing ham, press cloth. For lengthening/shortening pattern: extra paper and clear tape.

Medium weight knit fabric - natural fibers preferred - in the yardage for your size and view. French terry and lighter sweatshirt fleece are ideal!

Pressing Ham (optional but fabulous)
Basic Sewing Kit: sharp fabric shears, 2 x 18” clear ruler, tape measure, glass head pins, seam gauge, seam ripper.
The Winnow Cardigan HYBRID
January 28, February 4, 11, March 4, 18, April 8 + 15, 10 am- 1 pm $210
The Winnow cardigan features a relaxed fit and an interesting stitch pattern that resembles wheat! We'll cover Italian cast-on, the unique brioche variation that creates the stitch pattern, picking up stitches, seaming, tubular bind-off, and button-bands. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling in the round, and have experience knitting from a pattern.

Work In Progress Knitting Help IN PERSON

We've all got a knitting Work In Progress that could use some help! Join knitting instructor Amie Palmer most Fridays for guidance! If you've taken a class with Amie, or a knitting class at Freeman's Creative, come work on your projects with guidance and support. This is an ongoing series for students who are starting, working on, or need help completing projects.
