Freeman’s Creative is looking to grow our team! We are Durham’s source for fabric, yarn, and other handcraft supplies. We are located in the Lakewood Shopping Center, near the Scrap Exchange and El Centro Hispano. Our focus is on small, independent companies and natural, easy care, and beginner-friendly product lines.

THE POSITION:

We are hiring a full-time Store Manager to work 40 hours per week (Wednesday through Sunday, 10:30-6:30) in our creative retail shop. Pay starts at $17/hr along with a generous employee discount and PTO after 3 months. The Store Manager will work will closely with our small team, including the Owner, Inventory Manager, and additional part-time staff to maintain daily operations of our growing business. The Manager’s responsibilities include opening and closing duties, maintaining and improving customer experience, managing store staff, and assisting the Owner with the creation, improvement, and implementation of store systems.

This position includes general staff responsibilities including assisting customers in selecting materials and patterns, cutting fabric and winding yarn, filling online orders via Shopify, answering questions via phone, and checking out customers. Employees also maintain cleanliness of the store, enter and label inventory, restock products, and other tasks as necessary. Employees spend most shifts on their feet, and there is some lifting of boxes less than 50 pounds.

COVID-19: We have continued to operate as a Covid-concious workplace, and our staff has continued to mask after ongoing conversation. Employees are expected to follow updates to health and safety best practices including vaccines and boosters, and adhere to a regular cleaning and disinfecting schedule. We will discuss comfort levels and expectations during the interview process.

ABOUT YOU:

Ideal candidates should have some management or leadership experience in addition to working knowledge and interest in both sewing and either knitting or crochet. Retail experience is not essential, but candidates should enjoy meeting and talking to new people, and have a desire to help customers have a positive experience. This position requires strong communication skills, self-awareness, enthusiasm for community-building, and an appreciation for the unique features of small businesses.
