Garment Sewing Basics IN PERSON CLASS

  • Freeman's Creative LLC 2020 Chapel Hill Road #25 Durham, NC, 27707 United States (map)

Many people start sewing to get clothing that reflects their personal style and that fits better than off-the-rack. This class will cover the info you need to know to measure yourself correctly, pick the right pattern size, make common fit adjustments and construct a garment. Working with either a pants pattern or a skirt pattern (both are gender / size inclusive) you’ll learn about ease, fabric choices, notches, lengthening & shortening, cutting between sizes, sewing & finishing a seam, elastic insertion and hemming. The first class will cover sizing, pattern adjustments & fabric recommendations – bring your supplies to the second class. If you have tried sewing before but were frustrated by the process, this class is for you!

The patterns for this class have been designed for beginners - both styles feature a flat front waistband and an elastic back waistband. The pants can be made with a slim or wide leg, and the skirt can be long or short. Most importantly, both of our patterns have POCKETS!

Instructor: Shaerie Mead

Skill level: beginner - you have taken any sewing machine intro class or are able to set up a machine and adjust basic stitches - but if it’s been a while we'll get you sorted. This is a great second project class.
