Using a Pattern: Classic Tote Bag IN PERSON

  • Freeman's Creative LLC 2020 Chapel Hill Road #25 Durham, NC, 27707 United States (map)

You're feeling more comfortable with a sewing machine, but what is up with sewing patterns? Even patterns labeled ‘easy’ can leave a new sewist confused, with unspoken rules they assume you know. In this class, we’ll go over all the info you need to confidently read a pattern, get the right supplies, and complete a satisfying project. Length of grain? Bias? Layouts? Interfacing? All will be made clear – and you’ll have the skills you need to tackle a wide range of makes!

Instructor: Shaerie Mead

Materials:

Our class project is a lined tote bag with interfacing to give it shape, and the pattern is included with the class.

Outer Bag Fabric: 58” or 44” wide: ¾ yard

Lining Fabric: 58” or 44” wide: ¾ yard

Fusible Interfacing (woven recommended): 20 – 22” wide: 1 ¼ yards OR 45” wide: ¾ yard

Thread: cotton or poly thread that matches outer fabric

Our shop staff can point you in the right direction!

Your sewing machine, or rent one of our classroom machines

We have all basic sewing supplies in the classroom, but you may want to bring your own sewing kit (scissors, pins, seam ripper, marking tools) for convenience.
